Axxess Marine Raises Thousands for Hurricane Irma Relief, Welcomes Tour de France Legend George Hincapie to Monaco
Axxess Marine hosted the inaugural Axxess Marine Invitational charity cycling event Tuesday morning, raising approximately 19 thousand dollars for Hurricane Irma Relief.
“When we began preparations for the event over a year ago, our focus was on connecting with partners and clients for a fun day of cycling, ” said Andrea Carmichael, Axxess Marine COO, “But once Hurricane Irma hit, we knew that we had to refocus our charitable efforts to help the people of St Maarten.”
Special guest, Tour de France great, professional cyclist George Hincapie led the group of riders on a 55 kilometer route. A private lunch for participants and ride sponsors followed at Stars and Bars in the Monaco Marina.
During the luncheon at Stars’N’Bars Monaco, a $10,000 check was presented to Sister Regina Primary School in Sint Maarten, which was completely destroyed by Hurricane Irma. Fundraising efforts are ongoing, and an additional $9,280 has been raised to date. “The island will be rebuilding for quite a while,” Carmichael commented. “Our team is passionate about raising money throughout the rebuilding process. It’s a time to reflect on the people of St Maarten, who are there to support our industry when the yachting season returns each winter. The provisioning offices and staff, dock masters and crew, restaurants, taxis, varnishers and their families – without a doubt, their personal lives have been greatly changed and we want to help in every way we can.”
The Axxess Marine Invitational Cycling event will take place annually in tandem with the Monaco Yacht Show. Passionate cyclists and enthusiasts are urged to mark their calendars for next year’s event, tentatively scheduled for Sunday September 23, 2018.
