During a recent installation with a client in St Maarten we established that their slower average LTE speeds were mainly as a result of the lengthy cable runs required, which sometimes can be unavoidable. It was agreed that the set up should be reviewed, but with the owner arriving that same day with a ton of business critical data usage ahead, our team had to think on their feet to create a solution for the owner’s needs, which would deliver higher speeds and could be implemented immediately.

In contrast to our latest posting on the #AX antenna upgrade for another yachting client in the sun- drenched Caribbean, we continue to work across all sectors of the maritime industry and the recent trial with an offshore service and support vessel company is a perfect example.

 

While most of our engineering efforts that you’ll see usually benefit from stunning backdrop scenery and glorious sunshine, it really can be a 24-7 job for installations as well as for our support team. Recent proof of this was our engineering team still hard at work after dark in Sint Maarten, making sure that the new #AX antenna upgrade was completed on time, ensuring the vessel was ready for the owner’s arrival, just in time to watch the Super Bowl LV Final live on board.

 

Our client S/Y Atalante1 previously experienced poor LTE performance and was keen to address this during their busy 2021 Caribbean charter season. Their above deck equipment was not achieving an effective range, and below deck their old router was clearly underperforming.

 

As the winter Caribbean season continues we remain open for business dockside in both Antigua (Antigua Yacht Club Marina, Falmouth Harbour) and Sint Maarten (Isle De Sol, Simpson Bay), with both offices fully operational and Covid secure. Our #engineering team is following our strict guidelines and also adhering to our client's protocols, when boarding vessels to complete installations, carry out vessel heath checks or simply deliver SIM cards.
